  • 1 Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 Cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 2 cups Tomato Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive OIl
  • Salt and Black Pepper, to taste
  • Fresh Parsley, chopped for garnish

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375ºF (190ºC).

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.  Gently remove any damaged outer leaves from the cabbage, then carefully submerge the whole head into the boiling water. Blanch for about 3-5 minutes until the outer leaves start to soften.  Remove the cabbage from teh pot and let it cool slightly.

Step 3

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, onion, garlic, egg, dried oregano, paprika, salt, and black pepper.  Mix everything together until well combined.

Step 4

Carefully separate the softened leaves from the cabbage head, ensuring they remain intact. Trim any thick center veins from the leaves.

Step 5

Take a cabbage leaf, place a small portion (about 2-3 tablespoons) of the beef-rice mixture near the base of the leaf, and roll it up into a tight bundle, tucking in the sides as you go. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.

Step 6

Spread a layer of tomato sauce in the bottom of a baking dish. Arrange the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish, forming a single layer. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the top.

Step 7

Drizzle the olive oil over the cabbage rolls, cover the dish with aluminum foil, and bake in the preheated oven for 45-40 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the meat is cooked through.

Step 8

Remove the foil, brush the tops of the cabbage rolls with some of the tomato sauce from the dish, and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the suace has thickened slightly and the tops are nicely browned.

Step 9

Carefully remove. thedish from the oven and let is cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
