About this Recipe
Perfect for a relaxing afternoon, this Rustic Apple Galette has tart apples, coated in a hint of cinnamon and sugar and wrapped in a flaky pastry crust.
INGREDIENTS:
- 4 medium Gala or Fuji Apples, thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar, divided in half
- 1/4 cup Light Brown Sugar
- 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup Ice Water
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1 egg, beaten (egg wash)
- 2 Tablespoons Turbinado Sugar
- Additional Optional: Substitute the flour, salt, 1/4 cup sugar, butter and water for 1 refrigerated pie crust
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 375ºF (190ºC) and line a baking sheet wiht parchment paper.
Step 2
Combine flour, salt, and 1/4 cup sugar. Cut in butter until crumbly. Mix in water until dough forms.
Step 3
Roll dough into a circle and carefully plaec on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 4
In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
Step 5
Arrange the sliced apples in the center of the dough, leaving a 1 1/2-inch border.
Step 6
Sprinkle the sugar-cinnamon mixture over the apples and dot with pieces of butter.
Step 7
Fold the edges of the dough over the apples, pleating as you go, to create a rustic crust.
Step 8
Brush the edges of the dough with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
Step 9
Bake the galette for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
Step 10
Let the galette cool for a few minutes before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
