TO PREPARE THE CHERRY SIMPLE SYRUP
YIELD
1 cup
Step 1
If using fresh cherries, wash them thoroughly, remove the pits, and slice them in half. If using frozen cherries, no need to thaw; you can use them straight from the freezer.
Step 2
In a medium saucepan, combine the cherries, sugar, and water. If you want to enhance the flavor, add a splash of lemon juice.
Step 3
Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir the mixture occasionally until the sugar has completely dissolved. This should talk about 3-5 minutes.
Step 4
Once the sugar is dissolved, bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Allow. itto simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cherries will break down, and the syrup will take on a beautiful red color.
Step 5
After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat. Using a fine-mesh strainer or cheese cloth, strain the syrup into a clean jar or bottle, discarding the solids.
Step 6
Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature before sealing the jar. Once cooled, refrigerate your cherry simple syrup. It should last for about 2-3 weeks in the fridge. Enjoy!
