About this Recipe
A refreshing twist on traditional sangria, this Watermelon Sangria Sensation cocktail combines sweet watermelon with crisp wine wine and a hint of citrus for a perfect summer drink.
INGREDIENTS:
COCKTAIL
- 4 cups Fresh Watermelon, diced
- 1 – 750ML bottle Citra Pinot Grigio
- 1 cup Vodka, regular or citrus
- 1/4 cup Fresh Lime Juice
- 1/2 cup Orange Simple Syrup (see recipe)
- 1 cup Sparkling Water
- Fresh Mint Leaves and Lime Slices, for garnish
ORANGE COCKTAIL SIMPLE SYRUP:
- 1 cup Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
- 1 cup Granulated Sugar
- 3 large Orange Slices, with peel
TO PREPARE THE COCKTAILS
Step 1
In a blender, puree the watermelon until smooth. Strain to remove any seed fragments.
Step 2
In a large pitcher, combine the watermelon puree, white wine, vodka, orange simple syrup and lime juice. Stir well.
Step 3
Refrigerate for at least an hour to let the flavors meld.
Step 4
Just before serving, add the sparkling water to the pitcher and stir gently.
Step 5
Pour the sangria into glasses over ice and garnish with mint leaves, orange and/or lime slices. Enjoy!
TO PREPARE THE ORANGE COCKTAIL SIMPLE SYRUP
YIELD

Step 1
In a small heavy-bottom saucepan, combine freshly squeezed orange juice, granulated sugar, and orange slices and heat over medium high heat.
Step 2
Bring to a gentle boil and let simmer for 2-3 minutes or until sugar is completely dissolved.
Step 3
Remove from heat and add 3 orange slices to the pot. Let the mixture sit for 20 minutes, then remove the orange slices.
Step 4
Let syrup cool completely, then use in cocktail recipe or transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to a month.
Step 5
Label and date the bottle, and store the simple syrup in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
