DELI/BAKERY CLERKS (Full Time)
STARTING WAGE: $20/hour, no experience necessary.
SHIFTS: Complete Open Availability – Weekends Required

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Fairfax Market is looking for friendly and engaged people to join their dynamic team, who desire a rewarding career devoted to exceptional customer service and share a passion for food.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Fairfax Market’s deli/bakery clerk’s primary responsibilities are sharing product knowledge and promoting the department’s items while providing excellent customer service to our community. In addition, they also:

  • Prepare speciality and made-to-order sandwiches, based on customer’s request and pre-set menu.
  • Properly cut wrap and scale deli and bakery items.
  • Stock and display deli and bakery items.
  • Preapre rotisserie chickens.
  • Assist in receiving and unloading of merchandise, check products for quality, count and condition.
  • Answer phones and take special orders.
  • Bake throughout the day, as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary and attractive work environment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to regularly lift at least 50lbs.
  • Must be able to reach, stand, and/or walk for up to 8 hours a day.
  • Please be aware that you may be asked on occasion to wear a Covid-19 related PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when asked by a customer.
  • Must be able to work wekeends, nights and some holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS

You should meet the following requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 yearss of age.
  • Must have basic to proficient knife skills.
  • Previous food service experience is helpful, but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to learn and retain product knowledge.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • A positive attitude is essential!

GROCERY CLERKS (Full Time)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Fairfax Market’s grocery clerk’s create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. They establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages our customers to return. Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals established for the department and monitor all established quality assurance standards. They embrace the customer 1st strategy and encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety of others. In addition, they also:

  • Help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
  • Inform customers of food specials and recommends grocery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  • Check product quality to ensure freshness. Review “sell by” dates and take appropriate action.
  • Provide customers with fresh and non-perishable grocery products that they have ordered.
  • Recommend grocery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  • Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Display a positive attitude.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge or products sold within the store and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products.
  • Promote trust and respect among associates.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throghout the store.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions and notify store management.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft or fraud.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
